Meet the Artist

Hi, I’m Tjitske.

Owner & artist · Canterbury, England

I’m a self-taught artist and a picture-book author-illustrator. My very favourite things to draw are the weather, the shapes of clouds and trees, the changing seasons and animals in their habitats, and every print and card in my shop starts from one of my drawings.

Our story

The story behind the drawings

Tjitske's Raindrops artwork: a swan on a dark lake ringed with raindrop ripples
Raindrops: a swan on a lake, with rain making ripples all around.

01 How it started

It started in the Dutch countryside.

I grew up in the Netherlands, where I played in the countryside, cycled and went boating along the canals, and looked after a large collection of pets and wild animals.

I’m self-taught, and I still find my inspiration in travelling, long walks and looking at the sky. Today I live in Canterbury with my husband and our twin sons, and when I’m not drawing we’re travelling around the UK and Europe by train, or out hiking.

I’ve been selling my prints and cards here since 2018, and in 2025 my first picture book, I’m a Cloud, came out. Go, Crow followed in 2026.

02 Where & how it’s made

Drawn with an eraser, printed on beautiful paper

I work mostly in Procreate, using the eraser to draw in negative space, often with a single brush, so every picture keeps a simple, cohesive look full of pattern.

  1. Research & sketch. I spend a lot of time researching and sketching before I start a final illustration.
  2. Draw. Each final illustration is drawn digitally, rich in detail and pattern.
  3. Print. Art prints are giclée printed on 310gsm Hahnemühle German Etching paper, with a white border for framing.
  4. Cards. Matte, subtly textured 15 x 15 cm cards come with a Kraft envelope in compostable cellophane.

03 What makes it special

Three things you’ll find in my work

Sky, weather & seasons

Stormy sunrises, rain on a lake, frosty fields and migrating swallows: the weather and the changing seasons are what I love to draw most.

Animals at home

Foxes, hares, deer, seals, wolves and crows, each drawn in its own habitat.

A bookmark on the back

The back of each card has a detail of the main picture that you can cut out and keep as a bookmark.
